Many would say that a journey to Mongolia is not complete without having ventured into the Gobi. The Gobi is a huge track of sparsely inhabited land in the south of Mongolia, yet there are still nomadic families living in semi arid areas, often close to the few wells and waterholes. Most visitors venture into the area of the “Goviin Gurvan Saihan” (The three beauties of the Gobi) National Park where they visit “Yolin Am” (the Vulture’s Mouth ice canyon), Khongoryn Els – a vast and dramatic area of sand dunes and the “The Flaming Cliffs”, (“Bayan Zag”) made of red sand stone, where still today dinosaur fossils can be found.
