Departures at any time, 3
days/2 nights |
for our longer 4 day Gobi itinerary
Day 1: You will be picked up at your accommodation in UB and transferred to the airport for an
early morning flight to the Gobi desert.
From the Gobi airport, drive into “Goviin Gurvan Saihan” (The three beauties of
the Gobi) National Park and visit “Yolin Am” (the Vulture’s Mouth) ice canyon. The area consists of an oasis, attracting wildlife from all around the area for grazing and drinking. The highlight of this valley is the ice remaining inside the canyon until August every year, surviving the desert heat to form what is better known as the “Gobi Glacier”. Overnight in a ger camp close to Yolin Am.
Day 2: Drive to “The Flaming Cliffs”, (“Bayan Zag”) made of red sand stone, which during sunset seem to be on fire. The name of the area actually refers to its richness of saxaul forest but is more commonly known for its cliffs of red sand stone. The cliffs are known as one of the world’s biggest Dinosaur’s graveyards and until today, fossils of dinosaur’s bones can be found in the area. From Bayan Zag you will keep on driving to the Moltsog Els, an large area of sand dunes. Depending on travel dates, there might be the chance to take a short ride on a camel through the dunes. In the afternoon, return to your ger camp for the night.
Day 3: Flights usually leave the Gobi mid morning, leaving you just enough time for breakfast and your drive to the local airport. Your flight returns to UB around noon. You will be picked up from the airport and transferred to your accommodation in
UB.
