The eagle hunters of Bayan
Olgii
Departure at any time
in winter!
10 days |
This trip
can also be combined with the annual Eagle Festival held every October at
a location close to Bayan Olgii. Please contact us for more details.
In winter, the ethnic group of the Kazakhs who live in the west of Mongolia have for centuries used eagles for hunting and still do so today. On this itinerary, you venture out to Bayan Olgii together with a Kazakh guide to join the family of an eagle hunter. There, observe the daily life in winter and join the hunter on his hunts. The day to day programme will depend on weather and hunting conditions. Accommodation is on the floor of the hunter’s house, washing facilities will be very limited. While the hut is heated with a wood burning stove, a very warm winter sleeping bag is essential. Days will always be below freezing and nights will be very cold, temperatures as low as –20 are not uncommon. However, with the right equipment this will be a fascinating experience and intriguing insight into Kazakh winter life.
